The world is such that we are accustomed to yearning for out of season foods. These out of season foods are available to us as consumers, all too readily. Mass transit and exports make it possible. it is so possible that often times, we don’t know what is in season ad what is not.
Asparagus is in season in the Midwest April and May. That is a short season for locally grown foods. warmer climates, i.e California can extend the pleasure. When you look for asparagus in the grocery, it frequently comes from Peru. That is an extremely long way for asparagus, or any fruit or vegetable.
Recently, having an urge, I found asparagus from Mexico. Okay, at least I am getting on the same Continent. I will be in line for Midwest grown asparagus in April.
